Volunteers

WE NEED YOU - Sign up using the "MEET CALENDAR" tab.

In order to have a successful swim season, at least one person per family is required to work a half a meet if your child(ren) is swimming in that meet. A half-meet is defined as either the first half of a meet (events 1 - 43) or the second half (events 43 - 86). If the volunteer works for an entire meet (events 1 - 86) two halves are satisfied.

Exception: There are some volunteer positions that are for the whole meet, but count as your volunteer requirement for just one half. These jobs are on and off during the meet. They include: shallow end timers and shallow end lane judges.

Only those families with children swimming in the entire meet (1-86) should volunteer for these positions.

TRAINING IS PROVIDED FOR ALL VOLUNTEER POSITIONS. REGARDLESS OF POSITION, ALL VOLUNTEERS WILL BE ABLE TO WATCH ALL THEIR CHILD(REN) COMPETE.

Following is a list of the volunteer positions:

CONCESSIONS: 6 needed per home meet. To help raise funds, our team sells food and drinks at home meets - everything from hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza to ring pops.

LANE MANAGERS: 4-6 are needed per meet. Volunteers are given a heat sheet with a list of the races, broken down by lanes and names, and must make sure the right swimmer is at the right lane for each race. This is a great way to meet the kids and have a bird’s eye view of the swimming. Be prepared to get wet!

TIMERS: Eight to twelve needed per meet. Volunteers are provided with a stopwatch, clipboard, event cards, and a pencil. Timers stand at the end of a designated lane and time each swimmer, mark the time on the event card, and hand this card to a runner at the end of each race. Shallow end timers are only responsible for events that end in the shallow end (25's). Shallow end timers work the entire meet as there are not as many of these events. This is a great job if if you like to be right in the action and encourage swimmers to swim fast!

RUNNERS: 2 needed per meet. Runners pick up the timer’s event cards after each race and deliver the cards to the scoring tables where the results are tallied. The opposing team also has runners, so at the start of the meet it is important that efforts are coordinated with one another. This volunteer position is a great way to get some exercise during the meet!

PLACE JUDGE WRITERS/CALLERS: 4 Place judges sit at the end of the pool with a judge from the other team and record the order in which swimmers place. The runner will pick up this card to take to the scoring table. Great seats to watch the action. Be prepared to get wet! Shallow end place judges volunteer the entire meet.

SCOREKEEPERS: Two (2) per meet. Volunteers are stationed under cover and keep a running tally of the team score with a scorer from the other team. Prior experience is preferable with this volunteer job or a quick learner with numbers! Not ideal for families with one parent present at meet with young children.

EVENT BOARD: 2 needed per home meet. Volunteers keep track of the event and heat numbers. This is a good job if you want to stay in one place with your family.

STARTER: This is a trained position only for home meets.

SET UP/PARKING: 4 volunteers needed home meets only. Requires volunteers to arrive at 4:00 but you will be done by the time the meet starts. Responsible for helping set up club house for concessions, deck area chairs, volunteer seating, parking lot and parking signs around the neighborhood. Involves some lifting.

FACILITIES COORDINATOR: 1 volunteer needed for home meets only. This volunteer responsible for restroom stocking/cleaning before, during and after the meet as well as trash removal during and after the meet. Requires someone available the entire meet, but periodically working the entire meet.

GRILLMASTER: 2 volunteers needed for home meets only to operate the gas grill and cook burgers and hotdogs during the meet.
